On our last day in Japan, we took a tour of the Hikone Castle. This was the place of refuge for the Emperor. It is located in beautiful surrounding. Year ago it was surround by water to impede attack on the castle.
Many of the existing structures are in pristine condition and we had the opportunity to see how the palace would response to threats on the castle. There were many, many, I mean many steps to get to the top of the castle. Can you imagine climbing these steps with about 40 pounds of armor? To say the least it was a great workout and adventure.
After the tour we had our farewell lunch.

I am being presented with a certificate of completion. Thanks to the Um-Flint for putting together a great educational experience.
